You will love this series.this book is a great one. YOu will love it more if you read all the stories in order but even if not you wont be lost at all. One of the best series ever.
I did find the ethereal ending with Jane creative but at the same time disappointing and totally unbelievable (and for that reason I had to subtract a star). Judging from a bulk of the mediocre reviews and talk, when I cracked open this book I expected to feel like the series was all down hill from here but instead I felt the opposite. This installment was a total tear jerker. Vishous has been an unconventional Brother from the start and his choice in mate was equally creative and unconventional. I also look forward to the next book in the series Lover Enshrined. Vishous has led a hard life and an even harder sex life.
I can only assume we will be seeing more of Jane in the future since she'll be lending a ghostly hand in Marissa's safe house. I absolutely love it. I don't understand why Jane couldn't have been a dhampir like Beth or even a full blood instead of human; then we could've avoided the whole incorporeal disaster altogether. The story wasn't mainly comprised of Vishous and Jane's journey but also focuses on Phury and John. There wasn't a lot of Omega involvement and thankfully, even less romance but the Scribe Virgin and her domain play a huge role. I would consider this book a hybrid between dark urban fantasy and dark paranormal romance and, I highly recommend this book and series to dark urban fantasy readers.
I also recommend:The Devil You Know (Morgan Kingsley, Exorcist, Book 2)The Road to Hell (Hell on Earth, Book 2)ReVamped (Void City, Book 2)Demon's Kiss (Compact of Sorcerors, Book 1)Pleasure Unbound (Demonica, Book 1)
It's just a heck of a ride. Funny so many mention that it would not be a good place to start. So I got it -- figuring that I'd read the first 30 pages or so and it would either be bearable (in which case I'd set it aside) or so bad I didn't want to bother getting the first ones. Actually, it was nice knowing that there were earlier books I could immediately dive into when I finished. I almost did. Misjudged that just a bit.
As much as anything, it reminds me of the Seals/Troubleshooter world of Suzanne Brockmann, although actually this one is a tighter continuing story and the characters interact more regularly and meaningfully. That's probably not the ideal way, I agree, but I'd gotten interested in the series and Lover Unbound was the only one I could find locally. I love the world and the people (well, whatever) in it. I quite literally did not put it down until I finished it -- and I paid for it the next day, because I should have been sleeping. There were many things I didn't understand but I simply didn't care. Feel sorry for those who are going to miss out on a great, entertaining series because they avoid "vampire books".
(And to those who got a little nauseous with the continual 'drinking' in the Feehan books -- that is *not* a problem here and this series is simply far, far superior in many even more substantive ways).
I LOVED the first three books of the Black Dagger Brotherhood. But with this and Lover Revealed it got a little messy and awkward. But I still enjoyed it. it just wasn't a knock-out like the others
JR Ward did an awesome job of creating this world and bringing these warriors to life. Anyway, my only pet peeve is **SPOILER** Jane a ghost. It didn't disappoint. Yuck. Butch and Vicious are my favorite characters. I was anticipating Lover Unbound because I was so curious to learn more about Vicious. So I'm totally in love with the BDB Series. Truth be told I didn't see that one coming but making her into a ghost that only he can feel and touch while others can walk through her.
I just try not to think about that part. Really. In my mind they just end up together like all the others do. I loved it even more because it didn't have any Lesser storyline until the very end. Each time I finish a book I think this one is my favorite that is until I read the next installment and I fall in love all over again. The concept of her being all ghosty just kind of killed it for me.
Great book. I tend to skip those parts and come back after I find out what happens to the Brothers. I mean I still adore the book and the characters. The whole ghost part doesn't register for me.
